I'm an avid fan of Scandinavian folk music (mostly what I listen to). Favourite bands: Frigg, JPP, Troka, Swåp, Gjallarhorn, Sväng, Wimme, Väsen, Hedningarna, Värtinnä, Ranarim, Karen Tweed & Timo Alakotila, Garmana, Hoven Droven, Markku Lepistö, Annbjørg Lien, Maria Kalaniemi, Loituma (handsome male singer in an otherwise women's band), Frifot. Also, as my family is from Russian Karelia, I have a special passion for the band Myllarit from Petrozavodsk (the lead singer has a huge beard!), as well as the Kantele Ensemble and Toive.

I'm an ethnomusicologist, focusing on Scandinavian folk music and medieval Russian music. I also teach a course in medieval Russian literature. Other interests include Macs, designing fonts, hiking, movies, going to dinner with friends, and beard-watching (of course). :)

Oh, and I'm currently studying Finnish in anticipation of securing a teaching contract in Finland for the next academic year.
